Non-Poker Games with The Most Collectible MemorabiliaMemorabilia, physical representations of events and happenings that one has taken part in - or wished to take part in - are powerful things. Museums pay hefty prices for artifacts from the sunken Titanic, or other similar scenarios. Even ancient pottery and fossilized dinosaur bones are just really old pieces of historical memorabilia. The heart of Las Vegas casinos - and thus Las Vegas itself - poker has been producing pieces of memorabilia for decades upon decades. The rich history and suspense-fraught media portrayals of the game give a certain weight to the items used in famous casinos and poker games, or even by famous poker players. Other games, besides poker, also have large collections of memorabilia that stand for a lot to someone invested in the scene.
1. Baseball America’s national pastime, baseball is a part of the United States’s culture and history, and that history runs deep. Here are some famous pieces of baseball memorabilia: ● Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” Jersey - In the 1932 World Series, the New York Yankees were tied 4-4 against the Chicago Cubs in the 5th inning, when Babe Ruth stepped up to the plate. Famously, Babe raised his arm and pointed a finger straight to the center field stands, then settled into his batting stance. When the pitch came, he knocked the ball right to the exact spot he’d been pointing. The jersey he wore when he hit that home run - the “Called Shot” jersey - is worth $996,000. ● Babe Ruth’s First-Home-Run-at-Yankee-Stadium Jersey - Exactly what it sounds like. The bat that Babe used when he hit his first home run at Yankee Stadium was sold for $1,265,000, and no bat has ever been sold for more before or since.
2. Bingo Though obviously not on the same level as baseball or other more widely-played sports, bingo is a game that occupies a special niche of entertainment, and deserves its place on this list. Since the move from real life to the internet - with the best online bingo games available without having to go to a bingo club - the bingo memorabilia scene has dwindled. It’s not often an antique bingo set survives, so any that do are notable in and of themselves. ● Complete Set of Old Rare Board Balls, Roller, and Cards - A bingo collection from the 1950s, one these will typically sell on eBay for around $200. ● Large Tabletop Bingo Wheel and Stand, Bingo Ball Machine, with Complete Set of Wood Balls - A full set like this, also from the 1950s, goes for $185 on eBay.
3. Slots Originating in San Francisco, slot machines have become the symbol of casinos all over the world, and are by far the most popular casino game. Dozens and dozens of limited edition slot machines have been hunted for by collectors for decades, and many have still yet to be found. Of the ones that have been found, and are not being hoarded by collectors, here are a couple: ● Mills General George Custer 25 Cent Slot Machine - This beauty, a slot machine set into the chest and stomach of a statue of General Custer, is going for almost $45,000 on eBay. ● Antique Genuine Olympia Mechanical Slot Machine - Very red and estimated to be from 1940, this antique slot machine is currently going on eBay for $18,500. |
